The Air Quality outlook for Thursday August 10, 2017, from 8:00 am until 8:00 am Friday August 11, 2017 is expected to be in the Good to Moderate range.  The Weather Service is forecasting ENE, SSW and WSW winds during the day, which may give us a break from the smoke today. Tonight the winds are forecasted to switch to the WNW and NW, which may bring smoke back into the Klamath Basin, Chiloquin and Fort Klamath areas from the Spruce Lake, Blanket Creek and Flounce fires. This may cause the air quality to deteriorate into the High Moderate to Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range. Unhealthy Air Quality means everyone can be affected.  Sensitive groups should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion.  Consider moving activities indoors or rescheduling.  Everyone else should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion. Take more breaks during all outdoor activities.

The Air Quality outlook for Wednesday August 9, 2017, from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm Wednesday August 9, 2017 is expected to be in the Moderate to High Moderate range.  The Weather Service is forecasting NNE and SE winds during the day, which may give us a break from the smoke until 6:00 pm this afternoon when the winds switch and will come from the NW. The NW winds will bring smoke into our area from local fires that may cause the air quality to deteriorate into the “Unhealthy” range for the Klamath Basin. The Air Quality outlook for Chiloquin and Fort Klamath for today Wednesday August 9, 2017 from 8:00 am to 8:00 am tomorrow Thursday August 10, 2017 is expected to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive groups to Unhealthy for all range.  Unhealthy Air Quality means everyone can be affected.  Sensitive groups should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion.  Consider moving activities indoors or rescheduling.  Everyone else should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion. The Air Quality outlook for Tuesday August 8, 2017, from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm Tuesday August 8, 2017 is expected to be in the Moderate to High Moderate range.  The Weather Service is forecasting NNE winds during the day, which may give us a break from the smoke until 5:00 pm this afternoon when the winds switch and will come from the NW. The NW winds will bring smoke into our area from local fires that may cause the air quality to deteriorate into the “Unhealthy” range for the Klamath Basin, Chiloquin and Fort Klamath until early morning hours Wednesday August 9, 2017.  Unhealthy Air Quality means everyone can be affected.  Sensitive groups should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion.  Consider moving activities indoors or rescheduling.  Everyone else should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion. Take more breaks during all outdoor activities.

The Air Quality outlook for Friday August 4, 2017, from 8:00 am until 8:00 am Monday August 7, 2017 is expected to be in the High Moderate to Unhealthy for sensitive groups range.  The Weather Service is forecasting NW winds, which may bring additional smoke into our area from local fires that may cause the air quality to deteriorate into the “Unhealthy” range for the Klamath Basin, Chiloquin and Fort Klamath.  Unhealthy Air Quality means everyone can be affected.  Sensitive groups should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion.  Consider moving activities indoors or rescheduling.  Everyone else should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion. Take more breaks during all outdoor activities. For Friday, Saturday and Sunday between, 10:00am to 5:00am, the Air Quality in the Klamath Basin should clear up to be in the Low Moderate range and then increase to the High Moderate range in the evening and early morning hours. Moderate to high levels of smoke are also forecasted to come into Klamath County from several Northern California fires and fires in the Cascades.  Chiloquin and Fort Klamath are expected to stay at unhealthy levels today and in the evenings throughout the week and possibly into the weekend.

However, tonight from 6:00 pm to 1:00 am the Weather Service is forecasting NW winds, which may bring additional smoke into our area from local fires that may cause the air quality to deteriorate into the “Unhealthy” range for Chiloquin and Fort Klamath and in the “High Moderate” range for the Klamath Falls and the lower basin.  Unhealthy Air Quality means everyone can be affected.  Sensitive groups should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion.  Consider moving activities indoors or rescheduling.  Everyone else should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion. KLAMATH COUNTY ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION WILDFIRE SEASON DAILY UPDATE/FORECAST FOR AIR QUALITY

 

The Air Quality outlook for today Tuesday August 1, 2017, from 8:00 am until 8:00 am Wednesday August 2, 2017 may reach “Moderate to Unhealthy”.  Unhealthy Air Quality means everyone can be affected.  Sensitive groups should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion.  Consider moving activities indoors or rescheduling.  Everyone else should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion. Take more breaks during all outdoor activities.  Moderate to high levels of smoke are forecasted to come into Klamath County from several Northern California fires and several other fires in Western Oregon.  Chiloquin and Fort Klamath are expected to reach moderate to unhealthy levels today and throughout the week. The forecasted mixing heights for Klamath County are poor in the late afternoon hours and on into the early morning hours. These poor mixing heights may lead to an inversion, which could prevent the smoke from leaving areas like the Klamath Basin, Chiloquin and Fort Klamath, and may bring our Air Quality to Unhealthy levels.  The County may find some relief from the inversion during the early hours from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.
